In a meeting of the PSCBC held on Wednesday, 23 September 2015, the Employer acknowledged that the increase in the Housing Allowance, that was to come into effect on 1 July 2015, has not been implemented as yet. According to the Employer, employees will first need to register on the Government Employees Housing Scheme before the increased Housing Allowance will be paid. An application form for this purpose will soon be sent to all departments under cover of a circular of the Department of Public Service and Administration.

Once the registration process has been completed for an individual employee, the increased Housing Allowance will be paid to him/her, backdated to 1 July 2015. Please remember that employees who rent and received the Housing Allowance prior to the signing of PSCBC Resolution 7 of 2015 will have R 300 p.m., of the R 1 200 p.m. Housing Allowance, diverted into individual-linked savings accounts. New employees (i.e. those who entered the public service after 27 May 2015) who qualify for the Housing Allowance, and rent, will have the full amount     (R 1 200 p.m.) diverted into individual-linked savings accounts.

To ensure the earliest implementation of the increased Housing Allowance, members are encouraged to complete the application forms as soon as they receive them from their respective Departments.
