The Director General of the Department of Basic Education (DBE) has apparently made comments about a severance package to allow surplus educators to exit the profession.  Please note that this matter has not been tabled in the ELRC for negotiation or discussed with the teacher unions in any other forum.

Members should not contact the Union for details of the “proposed” severance package – there are no details available.  NAPTOSA will keep members informed of developments - if any.


It must also be borne in mind that an exodus of experienced educators is not in the best interest of the profession.

The following programmes are being offered in KwaZulu Natal, Free State, Eastern Cape, Gauteng and North West during the Third Term 2013. These workshops are open to all, no matter Union affiliation and there is no charge:  Foundation Phase Home Language and First Additional Language, Foundation Phase Mathematics and

Life Orientation for Senior Phase.    More information to follow.


There is no charge for these workshops -  they are funded by the ETDP-SETA.  Teachers are asked to bring with them, and this is very important: AN ORIGINAL CERTIFIED COPY OF THEIR IDENTITY DOCUMENT and a copy of the relevant CAPS document if they have it.
