COST OF LIVING ADJUSTMENT: EDUCATOR SALARY SCALES
In terms of PSCBC Resolution 1 of 2018, employees on salary levels 1 to 7 get a 7% increase, those on salary levels 8 to 10 get an increase of 6,5% and salary levels 11 and 12 an increase of 6%. These levels are based on the salary structure applicable to public servants.
We have already made public servants’ 2018 salary scales available to members (refer to News Flash 16 of 2018).
There are currently three versions of the adjusted educators’ salary scale being distributed on social media, all three prepared by different groups/persons, including NAPTOSA. The NAPTOSA document is dated 18 June 2018. All three versions use different notches as the starting point for the 6,5% and 6% increase. For example, notches 92, 93, 108 are used as the starting point for the 6,5% increase and notches 154, 159 and 160 for the 6% increase.
Members are urged to ignore these three documents (including NAPTOSA’s, which should not have been sent to members as it was a working document for office use only).
We have just received confirmation that the 6,5% will kick in from notch 99 and the 6% from notch 160. News Flash 19 /2018 contains the adjusted salary scale for educators and lecturers. Please note that this should be considered to be a draft until such time that it is officially published by the Minister.
SALARY INCREASES: PAYMENT DATE
We reported in a previous news flash that the salary adjustments would be paid by the end of June. This will not be the case. All departments have been informed by the DPSA that a supplementary Persal run has been scheduled for 3 July and that employees will have the money in their accounts on Friday, 6 July 2018.
