In terms of clause 6.3.2 of PSCBC Resolution 2 of 2015, the medical subsidy for in-service GEMS members and all former employees on all medical schemes will adjust annually on 1 January with the Medical Price Index for a particular year. The employer today announced in the PSCBC that the average Medical Price Index for the period 1 September 2015 to 31 August 2016 is 8,8% and that the medical subsidy for GEMS members (and consequently former employees on all medical schemes) will increase with said percentage on 1 January 2017.

The employer further indicated that GEMS members still have until 7 December 2016 to change their GEMS benefit options, should they wish to do so, taking into account the announcement on the medical subsidy increase.
