NAPTOSA KZN Media Release: KZN Education Provincial Budget 2017

NAPTOSA KZN is disappointed that the Honourable MEC Mthandeni Dlungwana did not use the opportunity to make his mark in the education terrain .The Province is under threat as it has been in the recent past regarding the financial cuts from Treasury. Despite the cuts NAPTOSA is of the view that the Department could be innovative in managing the biggest budget in the Province. Allocation of funds for remuneration in critical areas has yet again gone without being addressed.

Schools with learners with special needs in the Province are not staffed in accordance with National Norms. These schools have learners who require nurses to medicate them on a daily basis, very few such schools have the luxury of a nurse. Office based Vacancies in the department remain unfilled for many years, this is seriously hampering service delivery in critical areas such as curriculum and exams directorates. Some districts have up to 60% of vacancies and no plans in place to fill in the near future.A lack of
the requisite funding is the response offered by the department.
