COSATU has called a national strike of its members on 27 September 2017 in protest against corruption and state capture. NAPTOSA is equally perturbed by, and opposed to these phenomena that have crippled our country. Just recently NAPTOSA, as part of the Independent Labour Caucus in the PSCBC, wrote an open letter to the Board members of the GEPF to warn them that tampering with members’ pension money will not be tolerated and that investment/utilisation of pension money by the Public Investment Corporation will be closely scrutinised and legal action taken, if required.
NAPTOSA, however, is not an affiliate of COSATU, nor have we been approached by COSATU to join in the strike action. As a union we will therefore not be taking part in tomorrow’s action. Members must report for duty and ensure that they sign attendance/stike registers at their places of work.
To prevent situations where employers implement blanket ”no work, no pay” deductions on all educators and support staff in education, letters have been written to the Department of Basic Education and the various Provincial Education Departments to inform them that NAPTOSA members will not be participating in the strike action and no deductions may therefore be made from their salaries in this regard.
