The World AIDS Day theme from 2011-2015 is Getting to zero: zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS-related deaths. The WHO’s focus this year is on “improving access to prevention, treatment and care services for adolescents (10-19 years), a group that continues to be vulnerable despite efforts so far” and a group of particular relevance to NAPTOSA members.

WORLD AIDS DAY

The World AIDS Day theme from 2011-2015 is Getting to zero: zero new HIV infections. Zero discrimination. Zero AIDS-related deaths.  The WHO’s focus this year is on “improving access to prevention, treatment and care services for adolescents (10-19 years), a group that continues to be vulnerable despite efforts so far” and a group of particular relevance to NAPTOSA members.

NAPTOSA encourages schools to mark World AIDS Day (1 December 2013) in order to raise awareness, encourage responsible behaviour and stand against discrimination.

ü  Hold a special Assembly, which could include a candle-lighting ceremony and a special prayer for those infected with, or affected by, HIV & AIDS.

ü  Wear red/white clothes, collect donations and support a local organisation, eg a clinic.

ü  Make special posters, eg using the ribbon logo and learner handprints.

Show you care!   Wear your red ribbon!

DO NOT TOUCH

Despite our ethos and motto, NAPTOSA, disappointingly, finds some members who do not behave as they should. DO NOT TOUCH! Corporal punishment and any other physical abuse/discomfort and sexual harassment or abuse are not allowed – and the complainant’s perception of the incident will count, no matter the teacher’s intention.

Real NAPTOSA members do not abuse other people (of any age, gender, race or religion).

Real NAPTOSA members serve with dignity, professionalism, respect and self-control.

Real NAPTOSA members promote and uphold human rights and values in education.

NAPTOSA Fees for 2014

The NAPTOSA Council meeting held in October this year approved the new NAPTOSA subscription fees for 2014.  These will be R73-20 per month with effect from 1 January 2014.  The difference represents an increase of 7.6% over the 2013 fees.  This is in line with the Union’s decision to limit any increase to the general increase awarded to teachers during the year prior to implementation.  This will assist the Union in meeting the rate of inflation, provision of services and service to members.

NAPTOSA EUROPE AND UK TOUR

After a very successful tour this year there were a number of requests to organise another tour for June/July 2014. This year, 50 NAPTOSA members toured Europe.
