NAPTOSA wishes to appoint an Executive Officer: Professional Matters at the national office in Pretoria. 

 

Description of post:  The core description of this post includes :

 

1.       Co-ordinate all professional matters related inter alia to curriculum, assessment and education policy.

2.       Comment on legislation and departmental policies on professional matters.

3.       Co-ordinate requests for comments/inputs from the provinces and departments of education.

4.       Co-ordinate the sourcing of legislation, policy documents etc.

5.       Co-ordinate, where relevant with the Director of the PDI

6.       Keep up to date with developments on professional matters.

7.       Inform provinces of such developments.

8.       Table reports on professional matters at meetings of the union.

9.       Co-ordinate any mandating processes regarding professional matters.

10.    Assist with the preparation of media releases especially on professional matters.

11.    Attend meetings of the DBE, DHET, SACE, SAQA, ELRC etc as assigned.

12.    Co-ordinate the attendance of national professional matters meetings and conferences.

13.    Co-ordinate the national portfolio committees on FET colleges, Specialised education and Professional matters.

14.    Any other reasonable request from management.

15.    Updating website on Professional Matters.

 

Requirements:  This post would suit a person who has initiative and is able to work without direct supervision yet is also a team player. A suitable teaching or equivalent qualification of at least REQV 14 (a university degree).  An Honours and/or Masters degree would be an advantage.  Sound understanding of professional and curriculum matters.  The successful candidate will have sound analytical and research abilities.  Must have sound IT skills.  Must have good organisational, administration and communication skills. Must have sound inter-personal skills

 

Remuneration package:  Salary range:  R277 194.00 to R630 198.00 per annum negotiable, 13th Cheque, pension, housing allowance, medical aid subsidy and a generous leave allocation.

CONTINUING PROFESSIONAL TEACHER DEVELOPMENT (CPTD)

 

The phase-in of the long-expected CPTD Management System, which will record all appropriate in-service teacher development activities, has begun.  Lifelong learning is a prerequisite for quality teaching, and the CPTD system requires all educators to acquire 150 professional development points in every 3-year cycle.  SACE is in the process of accrediting providers (NAPTOSA has been registered) and endorsing courses/programmes/

activities (NAPTOSA is applying for approval of many of its professional development offerings). 

 

The CPTD cycles will be phased in – the first cycles are as below and thereafter every 3 years:

 

 

2014-2016 – Principals and Deputies -  2015-2017 – Heads of Departments and 2016-2018 – Teachers

 

All educators are required to sign up electronically for the CPTD system in the year preceding their first cycle.  Some North West principals/deputies have already been signed up, but the orientation and sign-up of the majority will be facilitated in January and February 2014.  School profile forms also have to be completed (manually).  PD points may be accumulated through teacher-, school- or externally initiated activities.  For more information on the CPTD system, download the CPTD brochure from the SACE or NAPTOSA websites.
