NAPTOSA KZN Media Release: Special Schools' Desperate

It is unfortunate that the Department of Education in this Province turns a blind eye to the dire situation schools with learners with special needs find themselves.
These schools who offer their services to a vulnerable sector in schooling are neglected by the department. National Norms dictate the staffing of Special Schools KZN Department of Education falls far behind.
Schools for learners with special needs must be staffed with skilled, qualified personnel, this includes audiologists, nurses, occupational therapists, physiotherapists and hostel staff.
KwaThintwa School for the Deaf is one such school situated in the Inchanga area. The school has an enrollment of 362 deaf learners ranging from age 3 to 22 years old, 358 are housed in the boarding facility.
