Professional Development Programmes 2012

NAPTOSA has always held the view that the teacher is the single-most important factor in achieving quality teaching and learning in schools. The Mc Kinsey report "How the best schools come out on top" (2007) found that internationally the performance of a school is determined first and foremost by what happens in the classroom. Professional development in Mpumalanga

On 10 September 2011 NAPTOSA Gauteng launched its English First Additional Language Literacy course for Foundation Phase teachers in Mpumalanga. The course was hosted by Klipspruit Combined School, situated just outside of Lydenburg. 97 Foundation Phase teachers attended the course, 59 of those from various schools in Burgersfort, 29 from schools in the Waterval Boven district and 9 from schools in Lydenburg. Guests included Ms Chintha Maharaj from the Department of Basic Education and Mrs Sylvia Motlaung, circuit director of Waterval Boven.

ELRC Negotiations.

On 31 August 2011 the Employer tabled, in the ELRC, the draft performance agreements for office based educators, the draft performance agreements for deputies and principals and a new assessement instrument for the IQMS (know as Teacher Performance Assessment) These drafts will now be subjected to negotiation, commencing on 13 September 2011. Please note that all the documents are drafts and will remain as such until such time as an agreement is reached and a collective agreement is signed. At that stage the policy will come into effect.
